Board of Trustees Minutes

April 16, 2019

Present: President Cindy Whitmore, Don Lashomb, Samantha MacDonald, Library Director Susan (Kate) Kosier, Nancy Russell, Julie Lanphear, Greg Axel-Lute.

Absent: Nicole Curry, JoAnn Young.

The meeting was called to order at 5:59 pm by President Cindy Whitmore.

Public Comment:

Julie says that the Native American Traveling College people are on Cornwall Island (Canada) and she will look into getting them here again. We will pay mileage.

Julie also says that it might be good for us to sell recyclable bags with a library logo or an image of Cranberry Lake on them.

Friends Report:

Marilyn and Kate met and discussed relationship between Friends and library. She gave Kate a schedule of Friends’ summer events. Friends have ordered two picnic tables for the back lawn.

Correspondence/Communications:

                None.

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved: Motion by Don, seconded by Sam.

Chief Financial Officer’s report was accepted: Motion by Don, seconded by Sam.

Nancy thinks maybe she should train someone else to do payroll in case she can’t do it sometime in the future. We will bring it up next month.

Report of the Library Director was accepted.

Old Business

Updates to facility: Architect Dan Montroy will visit sometime between May 3rd and 5th to look at the bathroom and give an estimate on remodeling. Janelle Bossuot from Brodart has measured our shelving and will send information and recommendations about new, movable shelves.

Snow Day policy: Cindy called many other libraries and none go by school closing. We will not go by that either anymore; closing due to bad weather will be entirely the director’s prerogative. Cindy proposed giving Kate three personal days in lieu of paying her on snow days. Trustees will revisit this again next month.

We may purchase tablets for trustees to use during meetings. The price for six of them would be approximately $1,800 total. We will get a more exact estimate on cost and revisit it next month.

No word from Community Bank on security concerns. Yolanda is processing our new trustee info and will have revised paperwork for us to sign soon. We will leave the money from our recently matured CD in our savings account at SeaComm. The money will be brought into our Community Bank account when we need it. SeaComm paperwork also needs to be revised, since as it stands only Cindy and Devin Rice have access.

New Business

Our summer activities list is filling up nicely. We will be taking over the movie night from the Friends. Lisa Kimpflen will come teach a Mother’s Day basket decorating class on May 1.

The WiFi hotspot in Newton Falls came in at $10 under expected cost. Kate will ask John Dragun to do a sign.

The sign should be put out on the lawn soon.

The locked door downstairs means some activities won’t be possible.

Kate has developed brochures for us to distribute to local stores, restaurants and other places (campsite, rental homes) this summer. They cost us 20 cents apiece from NCLS and we will get 300 printed.

Next monthly meeting: Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 6:00 pm in the Library.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:02 pm. Motion by Sam, seconded by Don.
